SnapMount Rod Carrier FAQ
Installation is a breeze—we’re able to get a rod mounted on a vehicle in under a minute. Here’s how you do it:
- Choose Your Mounting Spot
Decide where you want to mount it (roof or hood). Once you’ve picked your spot, twist open the front locking ring to its optimal position. - Mounting Position
- For roof mounting, make sure the rear of the rod is pointing towards the back of your vehicle.
- For hood mounting, point the rear of the rod to the front of your vehicle.
Pro Tip: We’ve found that baitcasting and fly rods are easier to mount when the ring is twisted so the top of the mount is open.
For spinning and spincast rods, twist the ring the opposite way, so the top of the mount is closed.
- Insert Your Rod
Now, insert the butt of the rod into the mount and twist the front ring until it clicks into the locked position. - Positioning on the Vehicle
Grab both mounts.- Place the rear mount in your desired location.
- For the front mount, place it at least 12 inches from the tip of the rod. Adjust as needed.
- Loosen the Front Knob
Loosen the front mount knob so the mount can separate from the base—you don’t need to take it apart completely, just enough to adjust the level of the mount. - Position the Front Rod Holder
Lower the front of the rod into the mount. For smaller rods, you can safely rest it just slightly on the holder. For larger rods, the firm grip of the mount should hold it in place. Note: The rod can safely be as high as the middle of the mount. We haven’t had any issues with placement, but we want to make sure you and rod makes it to the lake safely and not have to go to the store to buy new gear.
- Adjust for Level
Adjust both mounts so your rod is as level as possible. Perfection isn’t required, but a nice alignment will earn you extra style points as you drive to your destination. - Tighten the Rear Mount
Reattach the rear mount to the base, then turn the knob until it’s snug. Don’t over-tighten—just a firm hold is all you need. - You’re All Set!
That’s it! You’re ready to hit the road and enjoy your fishing trip. Good luck, and may your rod catch more fish than your vehicle catches attention!
SnapMount is built with high-quality materials for durability and functionality:

These materials work together to ensure SnapMount is a reliable, durable, and efficient rod holder.
SnapMount is designed to securely hold a variety of fishing rod and reel combinations, including:
- Spinning
- Spincast
- Baitcasting
- Surf rods
- Fly fishing rods (with proper positioning)
For the best results, we recommend using SnapMount with rods that have a standard diameter and grip design for maximum stability.
Yes, SnapMount is compatible with fly fishing rods. However, there is a potential concern about movement during emergency braking due to the lightweight and longer design of fly rods.
To address this, we recommend:
- Positioning the front mount further back on the rod to account for any potential movement during sudden stops.
- Alternatively, you can use a small strap or band to keep the rod securely in place and prevent it from sliding in the mount.
At the time of writing, we are actively testing several solutions to improve stability, and we’ll issue an update soon with more information.
If this is a concern for you, please feel free to reach out and let us know—your feedback is valuable as we work to refine the product.

SnapMount is built to handle rain and other wet conditions, ensuring a secure rod transport even in adverse weather.
SnapMount is designed to withstand rainy conditions and continue performing reliably. Here’s how it handles wet weather:
- Water-Resistant Materials:
- The ASA body and TPU rubber holder are both weather-resistant and can withstand exposure to water without becoming damaged or losing functionality.
- The Neodymium magnets are also protected from water damage, as they are sealed and not prone to rusting or weakening in wet conditions.
- Rust-Resistant Components:
- The brass inserts and zinc-coated steel bolt are resistant to corrosion caused by moisture, ensuring that SnapMount remains durable and functional over time, even in the rain.
- Magnetic Hold in the Rain:
- SnapMount’s magnetic grip remains strong in rainy conditions. As long as the mounting surface is clean and dry before attachment, the magnet will continue to securely hold your fishing rod during transit.
Important Note:
While SnapMount is water-resistant, it’s a good idea to wipe off excess water from the surface of SnapMount and your vehicle before using it to prevent any potential interference with the magnetic grip.
SnapMount is designed to handle cold weather and continue to perform reliably, making it a great choice for year-round outdoor adventures.
SnapMount is designed to perform reliably in a variety of weather conditions, including cold weather. The materials used in SnapMount—such as ASA for the body, TPU for the rubber holder, and Neodymium magnets—are resistant to low temperatures and will maintain their functionality even in freezing conditions.
Here’s how SnapMount performs in cold weather:
- ASA Body: ASA is known for its weather resistance and UV stability, so it won’t become brittle or crack in cold temperatures. It’s durable and stays strong in freezing conditions.
- TPU Rubber Holder: The TPU rubber is flexible even in cold temperatures, so it won’t become stiff or lose its grip. It will continue to securely hold your rod without compromising performance.
- Neodymium Magnets: Neodymium magnets retain their strong magnetic force even in low temperatures. You can expect the same level of magnetic hold, no matter how cold it gets.
- Zinc-Coated Steel Bolt and Brass Inserts: The zinc-coated steel and brass components will not be affected by the cold, and they offer resistance to corrosion in harsh weather conditions.
Important Note:
While SnapMount performs well in cold weather, ensure that both the mounting surface on your vehicle and SnapMount itself are free of ice or snow before use. This will ensure a secure attachment and prevent any issues with the magnet’s grip.
SnapMount is designed to withstand high winds under typical conditions. The magnet used in SnapMount can hold up to 65 lbs, which means that in real-world scenarios, such as during highway driving or mild crosswinds, the product should remain securely attached to your vehicle.
Ensuring that SnapMount is securely placed on a clean, dry, and flat metal surface will maximize its holding power.
SnapMount is designed to securely hold your fishing rods during everyday driving, even at high speeds. Based on real-world testing, we’ve driven with SnapMount over on bumpy interstate highways with dips, and it remained secure at speeds up to 105 mph in crosswinds up to 10 MPH. The holder has withstood emergency braking from 40 MPH and has been used during high-speed maneuvers like a quarter-mile slalom at 40 MPH without any issues.
While we don’t have an exact maximum speed rating, SnapMount has been proven in real-world conditions to stay securely mounted at high speeds and during sudden stops or sharp turns.
SnapMount hasn’t been officially tested for use on boats or other vehicles like motorcycles. While it might work on a motorcycle, it’s not designed for that purpose.
As for boats, it could potentially work, but here’s the catch—don’t use SnapMount to fish from a boat. We all know that the biggest fish always seem to bite when your system has a flaw. The last thing you want is that monster catch yanking both your rod and the holder into the water. Keep it on land for safe, secure rod transport!
If you do decide to test it out on your boat or another vehicle, we’d love to hear about your experience! Let us know how it goes.
Because SnapMount uses a magnetic attachment, it will not work on vehicles with non-ferrous materials, such as aluminum, glass, fiberglass, or other metals that do not attract magnets. The mount requires a metal surface that is magnetic, such as steel.
To ensure compatibility, we recommend testing your vehicle’s roof (or other potential mounting areas) with a magnet. If the magnet sticks to the surface, then SnapMount will work. If it doesn’t, the surface is not suitable for the mount.
If you’re still unsure or need assistance, please feel free to reach out to us, and we’ll be happy to help!

You don’t need to remove the knob to adjust the angle. Here’s how to do it:
- Loosen the knob by turning it counterclockwise (left)—about 1/8 inch (two full rotations of the knob)—to create enough space between the holder mount and the holder.
- Adjust the angle of the holder to your desired position.
- Push the two pieces back together and turn the knob clockwise (right) two turns or until tight.
- Do not over-tighten. You only need a secure hold. The teeth on the joint do the work of securing the position, so no need for excessive force.
Once it’s in place, simply tighten the knob to ensure the holder stays securely in position!
We’ve found that you can easily insert most rods without removing the ring. For larger surf rods, you may need to twist the ring so both sides are partially open, but sometimes even that won’t do the trick.
Removing the ring is simple—just follow these steps, and please, resist the urge to squeeze the front of the mount. The mount is tough, but we’ve successfully broken it by doing that. Here’s how to do it right:
- Twist the ring until the tip is just past either the upper or lower opening.
- Gently apply pressure to the top of the ring that’s adjacent to the opening.
- Twist the ring in the opposite direction.
- The ring should slide off under the front of the mount.
Reinstalling the ring is just as easy:
- Place the ring over one side of the mount and align the front of the ring with the lower mount opening.
- Gently twist the ring into the track.
- It will click back in, and you’re all set!
Pro Tip: While you can technically twist the ring on from the top or the bottom, we’ve found that it’s much easier to reconnect it from the bottom of the mount.
The distance between the front holder and the back holder varies depending on the rod type and length. The front holder should minimally be placed as far back as the potential movement in the rear mount, plus an additional 6 inches. While we’ve successfully driven with the front holder near the tip, keeping them too close increases the risk of the rod slipping out, and losing your rod means no fishing that day—and we don’t want that! Placing the front holder further back provides more support and reduces the risk of movement during travel.
For optimal stability, we recommend placing the front holder at least 12 inches from the tip of the rod.
Additionally, the hole in the front mount can easily accommodate rods with a 0.5-inch diameter section, making it versatile for most rods.
- Squeezing the front of the holder too hard: Some surf or ocean rods may require the removal of the front ring for installation. While it might be tempting to squeeze the front holder to remove the ring, doing so could snap one of the sides at the base of the rod openings. There’s a better way to remove the ring—click here for instructions.
- Over-tightening the knob: While it’s important to securely fasten the mount, over-tightening can damage the mechanism. A firm, secure hold is all you need—let the teeth on the joint do the work.
- Over-tightening the magnetic base: The magnetic base should be firmly secured, but not overtightened. If your SnapMount was purchased after 12/18/2024, we’ve permanently secured the magnet connection bolts with threadlock. Attempting to remove the magnets on these models could damage the base.
By following these tips, you’ll ensure SnapMount stays in top condition. If you have any concerns or need further assistance, feel free to contact us—we’re happy to help!
